I have a tendency to collect. Not just all the things, but little collections that make me so very happy. You already know about the books and the room I’ve made for all the books. I probably have also held on to a few more sets of dishes than I should (someday I will have a dish panty!) But this other one might be a little lesser known. I love little pitchers! Some are technically “creamers” but they can serve so many purposes and I seriously use them all the time. This is why I’m so exited to offer these to you in The Vintage Shop. I don’t expect everyone to turn into an avid tiny pitcher collector, but I firmly believe everyone might benefit from one or thirty in their cabinets so I’ve compiled a highly detailed list of the uses for them.
- Creamer: The obvious. The irony of this one is that I drink my morning coffee black but it delights me to pull out a creamer pitcher and fill it up when I have guests. (Guests who drink coffee also delight me!)
- Gravy: I’ve got a few gravy boats in my collection too but you can use a little pitcher as well. Some day I will host a dinner where everyone gets their own little individual gravy and it will be wonderful!
- Sauces: The other night I made homemade ice cream and decided we also needed caramel sauce at the last minute so I whipped some up. You know where this is going. I added it to the sweetest little pitcher and it was so cute with zero effort. I might have even kept it in the fridge like this and maybe added it to my coffee and felt so very fancy for the next few days.
-
Syrup: No matter how fancy or not your pancakes or waffles are they go down a few notches when you throw a plastic bottle of syrup on the table. Even more so if you zap that plastic in the microwave. Pour what you need in a pitcher and heat it up. It’s easier, less mess than a leaky bottle and healthier at that! (Bonus Tip: Get the real maple syrup! it tastes to much better and is a million times better for you)
-
Plant Watering Hack: do you forget to water your houseplants until they scream their needs at you? Keep a pitcher beside your most demanding plants so you can add the water the moment you see the need.
-
Filling diffusers: I am notorious for spilling water EVERYWHERE when I try to fill up a diffuser. That can’t just be me! Just keep a little pitcher of water beside your diffuser and you’re ready to fill it up.
- Utensil Holders: We commonly use a crock of some sort to keep our utensils by the stove but why not a pitcher instead?
-
Buffet Serving: when we have a big meal, I like to keep my silverware in a container for everyone to grab as they fix their plates. Pitchers are perfect for this.
- Pen holders: A desk no brainer and so much cuter than those metal containers.
- Food prep: Whether it’s one of those recipes that’s easier to get your ingredients prepped first or if you’re pretending your have your one food network show, a collection of pitchers can be a huge help in the kitchen.
-
Sourdough Water: Where are my sourdough bakers? You know that leaving the water out to dechlorinate is a must but why not make it cuter? I just changed mine out from a jar and I’m not really sure why I haven’t done this sooner!
- Lemonade Bar: Make a big container of lemonade then little options for add-ins like syrups, fruits and more. You can even use a dry erase maker to label to pitchers or place them on brown paper and label their spot. This is such a cute and fun way to entertain!
- Mimosa Bar: Same as the Lemonade Bar, but add the bubbly!
- Soda Bar: People are loving adding things to sodas these days. Make it cuter with pitchers of the add ins.
- Ice Cream Bar: Add your favorite syrups and toppings for the cutest ice cream bar ever.
- Banana Split Bar: I think you see a theme. These make serving of any kind just cuter but they are so easy. We love to have a banana split bar for my daddy’s birthday sometimes and this makes serving even cuter and clean up easier!
- That one person in your family drinks something different: This is highly specific but if you know you know. We have ONE unsweet tea drinker so I make him a smaller pitcher of his drink of choice. This is also a big time hospitality hack. Know what your guests like to drink when you invite them over for meal and they feel extra special.
- Guest Room Hospitality: A pitcher of water and a pitcher of flowers will make your guests feel extra special when they stay in your guest room
- Fill Up Your Iron: I admittedly iron more for craft projects than my clothes but I do know it’s important to use distilled water or allow your water to dechlorinate (like with sourdough) so a little pitcher set out does the job so very well.
- Fancy Tablescape: I might love dishes more than your average person but I do have a dream of one day setting such a fancy table that everyone has their own little pitcher of sauce or soup or something to pour over the meal top chef style. I will do it!
-
Flowers: any container that holds water can be a vase. I little pitcher of lavender by your bedside or gathered tiny blooms by the sink. This is that multifunctional thing where it can do so much!
- Gift Card Holder: Everyone loves a gift card so up it a notch by placing it inside a picture (that has 99+ uses) instead of a mug or something that has one.
-
Paint Brushes: A pitcher is so much cuter and substantial for rinsing brushes and storing brushes. (Be sure to shop our watercolor workbooks here)
-
Match Holder: Matches by your candles can be such a pretty touch. Fill a little pitcher up and add a striker and it’s useful too!
- They’re cute and make us happy: Adding a sweet little pitcher (or 20) is such a small way to just add some charm and happiness to a space or your morning coffee. It’s about that extra step, extra layer and extra effort that is actually quite easy!
