I’m not mushy, gushy by any means but when it comes to a finished room… especially after MONTHS of waiting… I fall hard in love. Over the next three weeks I’m going to walk you through three different spaces for some truly wonderful clients. Not only did they have patience, mad DIY skills and color coded spreadsheets, but they were just wonderful to work with. I absolutely love the decisions they made and how it all came together.
So let's jump right into the first space. The idea of a built-in desk area sounds amazing, right? It really is but when it’s in the middle of your home and doesn’t completely “fit” with how you want it all to feel, it’s really not an efficient use of space. We’re naturally drawn away from areas we don’t love. They're not inviting and we don’t use them to their full capacity (remember my office closet? This is complete truth) Was there anything “wrong” with it before? Nope? It was actually really pretty and fun… but I think we just took it up a notch (or 97) and turned a pretty and fun spot into a gorgeous, productive focal point. Let's take a look at some before and afters...
Now, when we started this, the had already painted the desk and were in the process of updating it. They wanted a specific wallpaper for the back wall and I gave them tons of options in their plan to match that original vision. But I also like to sometimes give my clients a little something outside the box… an option they maybe didn’t consider before. An option that is maybe a little bit outside their comfort zone… Say hello to a wall of vertical navy shiplap. I added in this small suggestion, showed an example and they were all in and I’m so thankful. I mean, how much do you love that dark background to makes everyone pop?
You know I usually like to make long lists of why each space works and what we can learn from it, but I think we’re just going to appreciate the beauty of this one. It’s a great example of how of pushing your expectations and getting your hands dirty in your own home can really pay off.
We’ll have two more spaces in this home coming up and you’re going to love those spots just as much!
