I’m always so honored when someone I know that has really good taste, but is also a little picky (in the best way!) asks me to help them with a space. That is exactly the case when this great family found their dream home. And here is where they are absolute geniuses… they started with their main bedroom. I’ve seen it over and over again where we put all our energy and resources in the main areas of our homes and our primary bedrooms end up being afterthoughts at best. But they found the house and contacted me to help them have their bedroom in order as close to move in day as possible. Not only were these client a dream to work with, that “picky,” trait meant they made amazing decisions that worked together so perfectly in the end. This room had the most peaceful, relaxing, luxurious feel. Let's take a look at the before and afters then discuss a few things we can learn from this space (and the befores are the listing photos from the previous owners. It was a pretty space, just not my client's style. We fixed that)

2. Fresh Flowers, always: Here’s one of my reveal day secrets. I love to add fresh flowers and almost always I will add some sort of lily. Not only are they so gorgeous and almost sculptural, but the scent is intoxicating and adds a whole other scent layer to the reveal. But here’s my confession. For some reason I almost didn’t add them there. These clients are very much minimalists and I hesitated before adding anything “extra.” But I’m so glad I did. One of the first questions I got after reveal day was “where did you get the flowers? We love them and want to keep fresh flowers in here all the time!” Fresh flowers in your bedroom are such an easy way to add that luxurious layer and appeal to a whole other sense. Sure there are really good fakes out there and I like using those too, but fresh flowers are always, always a good idea.
2. Know where to splurge and where to save: I love this part of process. Everyone, at every single budget, whether they know it or not, has these unspoken boundaries. We all have things we want to save as much as we can on, and other things we will go over budget to get right. You may not even know this until you’re faced with the decisions but you very much can mix high and low seamlessly. So much that I’m not even going to tell you what the splurges and saves were here. But this room is full of items from high end furniture stores, local specialty stores, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Amazon, Hobby Lobby and more.
So what do you think? The one thing you can never get from any pictures is the feel of the space. It doesn’t matter how many mock-ups or mood boards we do, it doesn’t all come together until you turn that corner on installation day and you feel it. This room felt so light and bright and comfortable, yet luxurious and complete. It’s the perfect symphony of all the textures, colors, scents, and extra touches. It was such and honor to partner with these clients to create the beautiful space they truly deserve.
